It was a tale of two halfs for the Lady Battlers at Seton Hill Saturday as their recent skid continued.
Seton Hill started out the game on a 13-4 run as it was capped by on a layup by Jill Emberg at the 14:29 mark. A-B's early struggles would stay with them the rest of the half as the Lady Grif's would extend their lead up to as many as 18 with just under a minute left in the first stanza.
However the half would end on a positive note for A-B as Britni Shriver stole the ball with five seconds left and Tori Charley would hit a jumper in the closing seconds to make the score at half 45-29.
The Lady Battlers shot 38 percent from the field in the first half compared to the blistering 60 percent for Seton Hill.
In the second half of play Seton Hill would get their largest lead of the game at 18:12 as they went up by 19. Than things would slowly start turning for A-B's offense as they went on a explosive 10-0 run over the next two minutes to make the score, a much more manageable one at 50-41. The beginning and end of the run would be a Amanda Peoples three pointer as she would end the game with a double a double with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
A-B would get the Seton Hill's lead down to as few as six with 8:19 left on a layup by Senior Lauren Reed. But A-B then went cold on the offensive end as they did not score again over a near four minute span until Ashley Prince split a pair of free throws. The Lady Battlers would connect on a field goal until Senior Tori Charley connected on a layup with 1:39 left. Reed would score off a Charley steal with 1:01 on the clock to cut the lead of Seton Hill down to 66-60.
Seton Hill would split a pair of free throws off their ensueing possession and gave A-B the ball back with just over thirty seconds left. A-B than turned the ball over back to Seton Hill off their next possession and that spoiled the comeback bid for the Lady Battlers as Seton Hill pushed the lead back out to nine. The final in this hard fought game would end at 72-63.
Charley had a solid effort for A-B as she poured in 18 points and pulled down six rebounds. Seton Hill was led in scoring by Emberg as she scored a game high 23 and pulled down a team high seven boards.
A-B drops to 2-7 in conference play and 4-10 overall. The Lady Grif's improved to 9-5 overall and 5-5 overall. On Monday A-B makes the long trek down to Bluefield State. The game will be on 91.3FM WQAB and online at www.ab.edu/gameday
