Men's Basketball Wins Thriller At Cheyney

The Alderson-Broaddus men's basketball team took care of business yet again, this time in dramatic fashion against Cheyney University.
A-B like in recent game's past took control early and pushed their first half lead by as many as 13 but the homestanding Wolves of Cheyney were not going to let it get out of reach.
The explosive Robert Townsend stole three consecutive passes for Cheyney as the first half was winding down. This resulted in a 7-0 run for Cheyney and they closed the gap down to 38-36 at the half.
Sophomore Jamar Board from Capital Heights, MD showed that he was more than a just three point threat as he notched 13 points in the first half alone but he was far from stopping there.
In the second half Board exploded for 19 more as he finished with 32 points on 10-13 shooting. This included going 5-8 from the three point line as he now is shooting over 50 percent on the year.
The Battlers would need more than Board in this one as the athleticism of Cheyney gave the Battlers the whole game. Senior Terell Eargle had yet another near triple double performance as he was the only other Battler to reach double digit scoring with 10 points but he also contributed nine rebounds and seven assists.
The contest went back and forth as both teams exchanged leads on several occasions. A-B held a slight one point advantage when leading scorer for Cheyney Sharif Bray stepped on his own baseline to turn the ball back over to A-B with less than 30 seconds on the clock. Eargle was then fouled and sent to the line for two free throws. He hit the front rim on the first attempt but hit the second to give A-B a two point advantage with 11 seconds remaining.
The speedy Tyrone Smith of Cheyney brought the ball up the floor and found a open lane and took advantage of the oppurtunity by getting to the basket nearly undefended. Smith however could not get the homecourt bounce as the ball hit the back of the rim than the front before it rolled off. The Battlers escaped with a 70-68 victory to give them there fifth consecutive victory and improve to 5-2 on the year.
This also gave A-B yet another Atlantic Regional win which helps earn at large NCAA births at the end of the season. Cheyney dropped down to 5-5 on the season. The Battlers will now set their sights on the WVIAC schedule as they have 21 games over the next seven weeks.
