A-B Takes Down Edinboro With 3-point Display

The Battlers men's basketball squad reigned supreme in what was their strongest effort of the season against regional foe Edinboro. A-B made the four hour trek up north along I-79 but it was well worth it as they had control of the game from the opening minutes.
Sophomore Jamar Board who has had the difficult job of filling in the shoes of departed Sam Liggins, made it look easy and early as he single handedly went on a 9-0run to start out the game with three consecutive treys. The early run didn't stop there as teammates Mark Summerfield and Freshman Roy Brown had two more threes to make it a 18-3 commanding lead with still 15:15 left in the first half.
The Battlers never gave up the lead but had to survive a couple runs from a very talented Edinboro team. After Eargle made a layup after the Fighting Scots timeout to make it 20-3 Junior Byron Knight started to heat up off the bench. He scored six straight points to cut the lead 21-15 but just as Edinboro got within striking range Board answered with yet another three to push the lead back to 24-15. Alderson-Broaddus pushed the lead back into double digits but just as the first half was winding down Edinboro finished on a strong note and brought it back into single digits with the score being 37-28 at the break.
The second half was in similar fashion as the Battlers stretched the lead back up to double digits early and had an answer to every Edinboro threat. A-B's largest lead of the night came with nine minutes left in the contest as they were well ahead by a score of 56-33. Edinboro would battle back in the final minutes but it would not be enough as the final score was a misleading 81-72.
The starting five for A-B did nearly all the scoring as the only bench points came in the first half on a Mile Ivanic layup. The Battlers were led in scoring by both Board and Senior Terell Eargle with 23 each. Roy Brown came into the game averaging five points per game but Brown poured in a career high 21 points in his third career start. Eargle did more than just score as his impressive streak four plus steals per game continued as he had five more. He also had five assists nine rebounds and three blocks.
The Battlers as a team shot a blistering 53 percent from the three point line in the first half on 7-13 shooting. The second half resulted with A-B going 2-6 from deep and gave them a final percentage of 47 for the game.
Edinboro was led in scoring by Knight as he ended up with 23 points. Senior Justin Moore was the only other Edinboro player to reach double figures as he had 14. Edinboro dropped to 5-3 on the season while the Battlers improved to 3-2 and got over the .500 mark for the first time this season.
