Late Second Half Run By WV State Downs Lady Battlers

Posted by CoachPMcGinnis on Friday, January 22, 2010

A-B led most of the game but a late second half spurt by West Virginia State allowed the Lady Jackets to walk out of Rex Pyles with a victory.
The first half of action was controlled mainly by the Lady Battlers as they turned up the defense and shut out the Lady Jackets from three point range. WV State would take the lead under a minute to go but Freshman Amanda Peoples countered with a three pointer to give A-B the lead back just before half and as the buzzer sounded A-B found themselves ahead by a score of 22-21.
As the Lady Battlers took the floor for the second stanze they picked up right where Peoples left off as they pushed their lead up to as many as 10 at the 14:31 mark. Than as soon as it started to look like A-B would pull away from West Virginia State the Lady Jackets forced several A-B turnovers over their next few possessions and worked their way right back into the game.
A-B was outscored by the Lady Jackets by 27 over the final 14:31 to make the final score 66-49. The loss would drop A-B to 2-6 in conference and 4-9 overall. A-B would be led in scoring by Peoples with 14 points. Senior Lauren Reed would be the only other scorer in double figures as she chipped in ten. Tori Charley would lead in rebounding as she pulled down a game high 11 boards. Amanda Harris continues to prove that she is worthy of being top ten in the nation in assists as she had 10 dimes for the game.
The Lady Battlers will go up to Seton Hill on Saturday. The game will tipoff at 5:15.
