A-B Wins in Overtime Captures Eighth Straight Over Rams

Posted by CoachPMcGinnis on Friday, January 15, 2010

Alderson-Broaddus came into the game with a seven game winning streak and at no point during the game was there a guarantee they would walk away with their eighth. The Shepherd Rams nearly walked away with a huge win on the road but in the end it just wasn't enough as A-B won a thriller in overtime.
It got interesting early as A-B's lone senior Terrell Eargle got two quick fouls in the first minute of play. Shepherd jumped on the opportunity as they used excellent ball movement around the perimeter to keep it close the entire first half. As the half came to a close A-B found themselves on top 34-29.
A-B connected on 7-8 free throws which was the difference as Shepherd only connected on 50 percent from the charity stripe as they hit 3-6. A-B leading scorer Jamar Board led all scorers at half with 14 points. Eargle in limited action still tallied eight points and also pulled down 4 rebounds. Aeron Spencer of Shepherd was their lone scorer at the half in double digits as he scored 10 off the bench.
In the second half as everyone expected the Battlers to pull away in typical fashion it simply didn't happen as Shepherd continued to keep A-B on their toes the entire half.
Shepherd took the lead late in the game and were up by four with just under two minutes to go. Eargle and Board took the game on their shoulders as Board stole the ball and passed the ball up court to Eargle for a one hand jam. After a defensive stop Board got through the lane and was fouled. He connected on both as he connected on 13-14 for the game. In the final seconds neither team could get the game winning basket forcing A-B's first overtime game of the season.
In overtime Eargle would pick up his final foul but A-B's defense stepped up as they outscored the Rams 8-4 to come out narrowly on top 73-69.
Board would end up with yet another thirty point performance as he scored 32 to go along with six boards, three steals, and two assists. Eargle would earn a double double as he scored 17 points and nabbed 11 rebounds. Freshman Roy Brown was the lone other Battler in double digits with 10.
Shepherd had four players in double figures in their balanced attack as guards Tyroane Roach and Jonathan Motichka both had 15.
A-B improves to 8-2 as they have won eight in a row. Shepherd falls to 1-10 on the season. The Battlers will travel to Pitt.-Johnstown on Saturday and the game will be brought to you live by 91.3FM WQAB and will be available on webcast at www.ab.edu/gameday. The game starts at 3p.m.
