Eargle Nearly Gets Quadruple Double Leads A-B Over D&E

Terrell Eargle nearly accomplished what many people call nearly impossible in a win over nearby rival Davis & Elkins College on Monday night.
In the first half of action A-B jumped out immediately to a 17-4 lead in the first five minutes of the game as A-B looked like they were going to run away with this one early. However the Senators showed why they are one of the most improved teams in the conference this season and came storming back into this one.  As it would turn out D&E would do more than just keep it close. They not only stepped up their offense play but defensive as well as they held A-B scoreless from the field over the final 4:30 in the first half of action. At half A-B found themselves down by a score of 35-29.
Eargle at the break was already well on his way to a historic performance. At half he had seven points, eight rebounds, six assists, and five steals. He was far from being done in this one. Carl Buck led the Battlers in scoring in the first stanza as he had nine points. For the Senators they were paced in scoring by guard PJ Turner as he had ten.
The second half would be more exciting than the first for the packed Rex Pyles crowd as both teams continued to battle for the victory. The D&E faithful did all they could to make sure that their 20 game losing streak to the Battlers came to an end.  The Senators pushed their lead to as many as seven at the 17:57 mark but then A-B, led by Eargle, stormed back into the picture and got the ball rolling for A-B who had a off night from leading scorer, Jamar Board who would finish with 13.
A-B would get the lead back late in the half but would have to overcome more than one scare from the Senators who had two chances to either take the lead or tie things up in the final minute but Board came through with two free throws in the final ten seconds to give A-B a 66-62 lead and that would be the final in this one.
Eargle for the game had once again a performance that may not be forgotten for quite some time. The following statline has no typos as Eargle scored 16 points, 20 rebounds, 8 assists, and 8 steals as he nearly earned a quadruple double on the night. All five Battler starters scored double digit points in a balanced attack.
A-B now has a ten game win streak that they will defend at home on Thursday as #25 West Virginia State makes the trek to Philippi in what will more than likely the biggest home game on the season for the Battlers. The game will be available on the blog site as well as 91.3 WQAB and also at www.ab.edu/gameday. The game starts at 7:30.
