A-B Women Outlast Explosive Glenville

Posted by CoachPMcGinnis on Friday, January 29, 2010

Head coach Josh Allen always knew what his team was capable of this year and in recent action against Glenville State those in attendance also saw it as the Lady Battlers took down conference foe Glenville State 88-82.
The first half would go both ways as A-B did all they could in slowing down a Glenville offense that averages nearly 90 possessions a game. Glenville jumped out to a early lead as they went up by as many as 10 at the 16:36 mark. However the Lady Battlers used a great press breaking offense which gave them a lot of open looks and on more times than not they connected as it led them back into the game.
A-B would get their first lead of the half late and they pushed it up to as many as seven with only 20 seconds left but Glenville would close on a explosive 8-0 run to give them the lead back at the half 45-44.
Both Amanda Peoples and Tori Charley led the Lady Battlers in scoring with ten a piece in the opening half. Donita Adams, the Lady Pioneers leading scorer, had 14 at intermission to lead all scorers. A-B shot a blistering 57 percent from the floor to Glenville's 40. However A-B could only connect on 1-11 from deep as Glenville hit five treys.
The second half would begin in Glenville's favor and they would hold the lead for a majority of the half as they had a balanced attack from Adams, Autumn Davis, and post player Kristen Golden to maintain their lead. It would not be enough though to hold off a determined Lady Battlers team that was thirsty for a huge and much needed conference win.
Peoples and Charley would continue to have an impact on the game but Lauren Reed would have 13 second half points to give A-B the lead back late. Reed would go on and hit a crucial three with less than a second on the shot clock in the closing minutes to give A-B a two possession lead at four.
The Lady Battlers would hold off Glenville by a final score of 88-82, giving A-B consecutive victories after dropping their previous four. It boosted their record to 6-10 overall and 4-7 in conference. Glenville who came into the game ranked in the top five of conference standings dropped to 9-6 overall and 8-3 in conference play.
A-B would be led scoring by People as she had 19 points but it was Charley who earned a double double as she finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Reed finished with 13 and Amanda Harris tallied 10 points and had eight assists as she is still top ten in the nation in assists per game.
The Lady Battlers return to action Saturday as they take on the conference leading Lady Falcons of Fairmont State. Tipoff is at 5:15 pm at Rex Pyles Arena and you can tune in and watch the game with the WQAB 91.3FM broadcast at this website as Tony Lane and Nick Dials will be courtside brigning you the action.
