Lady Battlers Can't Overcome Lady Bobcats of Wesleyan

The Alderson-Broaddus Lady Battlers couldn't overcome a slow shooting night Monday evening as they dropped a 69-44 decision on the road at West Virginia Wesleyan.

Although shots were not falling A-B kept themselves in the game in the first half with their respected defensive pressure. Wesleyan would only connect on more field goal in the opening stanza than the Lady
Battlers as A-B went to the locker room down by a very manageable score of 34-21.

A-B shot 34 percent to Wesleyan's 48 percent in the first half. It was a well slow half at the foul line for both squads as A-B failed to get to the line and the Lady Bobcats connected on 3-4 from the charity stripe.

The second half, unfortunately for A-B, would go much like the first. The Lady Battlers connected on only 6-28 from the floor in the second half for 26 percent shooting. Wesleyan would counter this with 63 percent on 15-26 shooting. This would be the difference as Wesleyan took over the WVIAC lead with the win over A-B.

The lone A-B player to reach double figures was Freshman Ashley Prince, who has embraced a starting role as of late and has showed continuous improvement over the season, tallied 11 in this one. Leading scorer Tori Charley was held to just two points but would the lead team in rebounding as pulled down nine.

Lydia Bridenbaugh would lead all scorers as scored an impressive 22 points and Jamie Kaufman would score 11 as they were the lone two Bobcats in double digits. Wesleyan improved to 11-7 overall and 9-4 in conference as A-B dropped to 6-11 overall and 4-8 in conference play.

A-B will make the trip to West Lib on Thursday as tipoff is scheduled at 5:15. The game will be available on WQAB 91.3FM and webstreaming will also be available at www.ab.edu/gameday.
