After losing a tough game on the road against West Liberty the Alderson-Broaddus men's basketball team dropped another tough one, this time at home against Fairmont State 86-83.

A-B would lead by as many as nine in the opening half at the 13:21 mark, but a consistent Fairmont State team kept fighting and never let the game slip away as they chipped at the lead throughout the half and would end up going into the locker room with a two point lead at 38-36.

The Battlers would have to play most of the first half without its lone senior Terell Eargle, who is always a triple double threat, but he would be picked up by Freshman Garret Putman as he connected on all four field goals he took to go into the locker room with a team leading nine points and six rebounds. Leading scorer Jamar Board was held to only three points in the first half. It was clear that A-B would have their work cut out for them in this pivotal WVIAC contest.

In the second half A-B would not regain the lead until at the 16:17 mark as Eargle connected on a jumper to make the score 47-45. The Battlers would maintain their lead for most of the second half until Fairmont would retake the lead on a Terrence Green free throw with exactly four minutes left in the game.

Fairmont would push the lead up to six with just one minute left but A-B was not going to give up that easy. Carl Buck would connect on a quick layup with :50 seconds left and than A-B would force a Fairmont turnover which resulted in a three pointer by Junior Mark Summerfield to cut the Fairmont lead down to one with just :38 seconds remaining.

However it was not to be for Alderson-Broaddus as Freshman Roy Brown would commit a foul on the ensueing possession and Fairmont would miss only one free throw down the stretch and Board would miss a three for the Battlers as time expired that would have sent the game to overtime.

The Battlers drop to fourth in the WVIAC and to 15-4 overall. Fairmont state who came in with an identical record of 15-3 improve to 16-3 on the season. Both teams stand at 11-3 in conference play. Fairmont was paced in scoring by Dan Bruner, who had 22.

A-B was led in scoring by Buck with 20 but it was Terell Eargle who stole the statline with yet another near triple double performance. He would finish with 19 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists.
