(Institute, WV) --- The Alderson-Broaddus Volleyball team pulled out a thriller in recent action at conference foe West Virginia State. The match went to five sets as the Lady Battlers won the first, third, and fifth to improve to 2-0 in the WVIAC.
A-B was led by Amanda Check, who had 20 kills on the day which paced the Battlers. Sophomore Taylor Martin had nine and Samantha Wisbon contributed eight but also lead the team with 42 assists.
The Lady Battlers took the first set convincingly 25-16 but then dropped a tough second set 25-22. This was the pattern for the rest of the match as both teams would alternate sets. A-B took the third 25-21 and won the tie breaking fifth set 15-12.
For the match they hit .177% with 53 kills, and 93 digs.
The Lady Battlers improved their overall record to 6-8 as the Lady Jackets dropped to 7-9 overall and 2-2 in conference play. This was the second consecutive victory for the Lady Battlers, bouncing back after dropping three in a row prior.
Alderson-Broaddus will return to action Saturday as they will go up against Shepherd and Millersville both at Shepherd.
