Men's Soccer Falls to Davis and Elkins

The Alderson-Broaddus men’s soccer team looked for a repeat of last season’s conference semifinal game as the Senators of Davis and Elkins College returned to Philippi in hopes of avenging their 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Battlers last November.

A-B lit up the scoreboard first at the 26:28 mark when junior Michael McDermott netted a pass from sophomore Michael Wright. The Senators would then even the score when Brett Keatley drilled a free kick in the 39th minute. Then, just twelve seconds before the halftime horn, D&E took the lead on a Daniel Kwafo goal. In the second half, the Senators would extend their lead in the 67th minute when Keatley scored another unassisted goal.
The Battlers were outshot 8-12, but only had one fewer shot on goal (5-6) than the Senators. D&E also held a slight 5-2 advantage on corner kicks. Neil Wright-Elliott had three saves for A-B, while his D&E counterpart, Timothy O’Toole had four.
A two-game home stint is in store for the Battlers, who host Salem International University at 3 PM on Wednesday, October 7. They will then entertain Concord University on Saturday, October 10. The Homecoming contest is scheduled for a 2 PM kickoff.
