The Alderson-Broaddus volleyball team advanced their record over .500 and doubled their number of conference victories by going 3-1 last week. The Lady Battlers dropped a five-game marathon to the Indiana University of Pennsylvania before sweeping WVIAC foes, West Virginia Wesleyan, Bluefield State, and Concord University.

The Lady Battlers opened their home stand with the September 29 contest against IUP, a rematch of a September 5 game in which the Crimson Hawks won in the fifth set, 15-13. A-B captured the first game 25-21, only to fall behind in the match two games to one with 19-25 and 24-26 losses in the second and third sets. The Lady Battlers would rally, however, to eke out game four 25-23 and force a decisive fifth set. Once again, IUP would go the distance, winning the set and the match, 15-8.

Junior Amanda Check led the Lady Battlers with 15 kills. Sophomore Taylor Martin and Lindsay Hadley contributed ten apiece. Junior setter Samantha Wisbon paced the offense with 46 assists, while senior libero Annie Federoff had 30 digs. Hadley also had 22 digs and five assisted blocks for the Battler defense.

A-B resumed its conference schedule on October 1 as it hosted WV Wesleyan. The Lady Bobcats kept the contest close, but A-B managed to record a three-game sweep, winning 25-22, 25-23, and 25-22. Check and Hadley, both outside hitters, once again paced the Lady Battlers with eight kills each. Wisbon had 29 assists while Federoff collected 18 digs. Sophomore middle April Lammert also had a solid outing, recording six kills, one solo block and three assisted blocks. In addition, Hadley contributed three service aces and eleven digs.

On October 3, the Lady Battlers hosted a double-header against Bluefield and Concord. Coach Carrie Bodkins would clear her bench in the first contest, as A-B posted victories of 25-12, 25-21, and 25-23. Check was once again the offensive leader, recording 14 kills and a hitting percentage of .448. Sophomore middle Taylor Martin added eight kills and hit .571 in the game. Wisbon had 22 assists, while her freshman counterpart Shayna Sweitzer added 15 to the Battler attack. Federoff led the A-B in digs with eleven, despite only appearing in one set. For the contest, the Lady Battlers hit a stellar .327.

Concord University would not put up more than 16 points on the Lady Battlers, as A-B won handily, 25-14, 25-16, and 25-15. Check continued her solid play with ten kills and a .471 average. Martin closed out a spectacular afternoon with nine kills on 13 attempts for a percentage of .692. She had no assists in either contest. Wisbon had 25 assists, while also picking up seven digs on defense. Federoff contributed 13 digs and four service aces. As a team, the Lady Battlers recorded ten aces, with four of those coming from Hadley.

The Lady Battlers, who currently have an 11-10 record, including a 6-1 mark in the WVIAC will be on the road for the next three weeks. Upcoming tilts include conference contests against Wheeling Jesuit on October 7 and Glenville State on October 13. They will also travel to regional foe, Urbana University (Ohio) on October 10.
