The Alderson-Broaddus picked up its 15th consecutive victory Monday night as they knocked off local rival West Virginia Wesleyan by a score of 85-73.
Wesleyan gave all A-B could handle in the opening half as both teams would hold leads. A-B would shoot 40 percent from the floor but Wesleyan would connect on 13-17 free throws in the opening 20 minutes to give Wesleyan a slim halftime lead at 37-36. The normally potent three point shooting attack from the Battlers was not so potent as they connected on only 5-18 from deep.
However the second half fortunately for the Battlers would turn around for the better. They would outscore the Bobcats 49-36 in the final stanza to secure the Battlers 15th straight victory and setting up a WVIAC conference showdown on Thursday at West Liberty.
The Battlers would use a balanced attack as all five starters reached double digit scoring paced by Jamar Board's 22. A-B's lone senior Terrell Eargle continues to make a case for All-American consideration as he had yet another impressive statline of 19 points, 15 rebounds, six assists, and three steals. Freshman Garret Putman finished with 12, Mark Summerfield netted 11, and Carl Buck tallied 10. Wesleyan would be led in scoring by both Ryan Hoehner and Neven Seravica as they each respectivally had 21 as Wesleyan dropped to 3-15 with the loss and 3-10 in conference.
Thursday's showdown at West Liberty means more than position atop conference standings. Both A-B and West Liberty are ranked in the Atlantic Region. The Hilltoppers are currently sitting in the 2 slot and A-B finds themselves at 6. The game will be at 7:30 and can be heard on 91.3WQAB and also at www.ab.edu/gameday. All students can watch the game live at the Erickson Alumni Center.
