Box Score | Season To Date

Philippi, WV --- While it wasn't the prettiest game the Alderson-Broaddus Men's Basketball team has played this season, it was still an effective win, as the Battlers move on to the Quarterfinals of the WVIAC Tournament with a 87-72 win over the Fighting Scots of Ohio Valley.  Jamar Board led the way with a team high 26 points, while Carl Buck added 25 as A-B improve to 23-5 Overall and advance to take on #11 Seed WV Wesleyan on Thursday.

Terrell Eargle, the WVIAC Player of the Year, helped out with 12 points and 14 rebounds as he recorded his 15th double-double in his final game at the Rex Pyles Arena.   Garrett Putnam chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds.

Sean Whiting had a game high 27 points for Ohio Valley as their season finished with a record of 6-22.

Despite the poor showing this season, the Scots were not in the mood to make this game easy by an stretch.  Even though A-B held the lead for the final 29 minutes, Ohio Valley refuse to let this game get out of hand, and they had an answer to keep the game within in stricking distant.

The Battlers would grab the lead for good at the 9:14 mark on a Putnam Jumper and then stretch it to a seven point margin after back to back buckets by Board.  The Scots answered right back with an 8-5 spurt to cut the deficit to four going into the locker room, 34-30.

After A-B opened the 2nd half with a 5-0 spurt, Ohio Valley answered with a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 39-37 with 16:33 remaining.

Both teams would trade a pair of buckets before the Battlers reeled off an 14-2 run to widen the lead out to 14 at 58-44 with 11:21 left to go in the contest.

Again, Ohio Valley had a counter for the A-B run as they scored eight straight points to cut the lead to six, however after two Board free throws and layups by Buck and Putnam the lead reached double digits and would stay that way as Alderson-Broaddus cruised to the finish.

A-B shot 43% from the field and 35% from behind the arc for the game.  The WVIAC's top rebounding team held a 47-37 margin on the boards over the visiting Scots.

The foul plaque contest saw a combined 83 free throws attempted, 43 for A-B and 40 for OVU.  The Battlers connected on 32 of those 43 attempts (74.4%) while Ohio Valley made just 22 of 40 (55%).

With the win Alderson-Broaddus will now take on WV Wesleyan Thursday at the Charleston Civic Center.  A-B already owns a pair of 12 point victories over the Bobcats this season.  Tip off thursday will be at 1:00 PM.
